Private Dump Northwest Of Yucca Valley Rejected

Approval of a private dump in the Rimrock area northwest of Yucca Valley was denied yesterday by the County Planning Commission.

The dump was proposed by Golden Empire, Pioneertown Developers, on 160 acres one mile north of Burns Canyon Road five miles southeasterly of its intersection with Mount Springs Road.

Planners denied the application after Planning Director Neil B. Pfulb reported the county has a 320-acre disposal site midway between Yucca Valley and Pioneertown. The county dump is not yet in operation.

“it’s county policy to discourage private dumps,” Pfulb said.”The county has had nothing but bad experience with private dumps.”

Golden Empire officials said the county site is in the heart of a scene area along the scene road to Pioneertown. They suggested that their site would be more appropriate. Planners suggest the firm discuss the matter with county supervisors, a suggestion Empire officials said they would follow through on.
